I'm an American, born and bred. Fourth of July past fairly uneventfully this year for me, with my aunt coming over for burgers and dogs and then us and our neighbors standing out in drizzling rain trying to catch a fireworks show in the next town over. But as I sit here at some obscure hour of the morning, I'm thinking about what Independence Day is. Yes, its a movie about evil aliens that was showed in marathons on several TV stations on Friday. But what is it to us Americans? To me, its a sense of pride, patriotism, and reverence that the freedoms we take for granted today were ideals that men centuries ago died for. It's a stadium of sports fans with their hats off as jets fly overhead and the national anthem is played. Its veterans with tears in their eyes as they pass memorials at the Mall in Washington.
Monday through Friday from September to June we say the Pledge in school. But I know that a shocking number of people don't say it. The day will never come when I won't state with pride my patriotism. Men fought and died for this land I call home. I'll do whatever I can for that legacy, the legacy of our fathers.

Feature
A defining symbol of the Fourth of July is the pyrotechnic display. Seeing as I was utterly disappointed by the ones I saw this past week, I think I'll try to do one of my own with this feature.
Very interesting... ^^ I heard the 4th was very uneventful this year. I'm glad I missed it, but at the same time I wish I had stayed.
